specimen care instructions
wet specimen care guide
your specimen will arrive wrapped in paper towels soaked in 70% isopropyl alcohol. once they arrive, they will need to be submerged in a glass jar (ideally airtight) full of 70% isopropyl alcohol.
if you need to run to the drugstore for some, just put your little one(s) in the fridge in a container/plastic bag/etc. until you can get them their isopropyl alcohol :-)
it is suggested to use 70% isopropyl alcohol specifically as this is gentle enough to not harm the specimen, but is strong enough to keep them preserved <3
once you’re ready to jar your specimen, put on your gloves and pose your little one as you’d like them to rest.
specimens may be rigid from formalin fixing, and may have some flexibility for adjustment, but don’t force your little one into a pose that puts strain on their bodies.
gently pour isopropyl over your specimen and close their jar, topping off/changing alcohol as needed (i.e., if discoloration, evaporation, etc. occurs). think of it as watering your plants :-)
place your little one away from direct sunlight/heat/fire/flame/etc., as their alcohol baths are flammable. for this same reason, please do not let your little ones smoke—no matter how nicely they ask for a cigarette!!
mummy care guide
mummies are very low-maintenance specimens. they simply require a dry place away from water and humidity, as moisture will harm them.
personally, i like to brush my mummies with soft bristle brushes/toothbrushes. i also think every specimen benefits from a ribbon and a bell <3
